Volunteer Coordinator of Performance Initiatives
I relocated from Savannah,GA from Morgantown WV. I graduated fromTuskegee University with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Following the passing of my mother from ovarian cancer, I obtained her PhD in Cancer Cell Biology from West Virginia University in 2007. My love of animals and the desire to solve problems led me in the direction of law enforcement, with the desire to become a humane officer. Many variables and circumstances made that practically impossible. I have spent the last 10 years working for the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department as both a Court Security Officer and an Inmate Process/Transport Officer.
Through my years of education and employment, I have learned that anything is possible if you put your mind to it! Further, I have learned that the path that GOD has laid out for me is not a straight one! It is full of twists, turns, and forks along the way, but each road and obstacle will provide skills/lessons needed for me to reach the place that GOD has for me.
Throughout my life I have been involved in numerous sports. In my early 20s I played with a semi-professional traveling women’s softball team. My love for strength sports resurfaced in 2010, when I started doing Crossfit to get in shape. However, in 2014 I started powerlifting and Strongman and fell in love with lifting heavy weights. I retired from Strongman at the end 2016 as a nationally ranked master’s female. Following an Olympic weightlifting clinic taught by coaches Kerri Goodrich and Susan Leathers early 2016, I found a new passion to feed my body and competitive spirit. Following my strongman career, I approached Coach Kerri in reference to her becoming my Olympic Weightlifting coach remotely, because I fell in love with the sport. Upon further communication with Coach Kerri in reference to her organization (Performance Initiatives- PI), I found it very interesting. I have traveled to Savannah on multiple occasions, at which time I fell in love with the city’s culture and people. After spending many hours at the PI facility and with many of the children that utilize their program. I have further fallen in love with what PI is trying to accomplish and the work that they are doing for the youth in the community.
